UP Bypolls Election Results 2024 Live Updates: As the counting progressed, in nine Uttar Pradesh assembly constituencies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates appeared to be leading in several seats.

BJP’s Ramveer Singh leads in Kundarki, Sanjeev Sharma is ahead in Ghaziabad, Surender Diler leads in Khair, Suresh Awasthi is ahead in Sisamau, and Dharmraj Nishad is leading in Katehari. In Majhawan, BJP’s Shuchismita Maurya is also in the lead. However, in Karhal, the Samajwadi Party’s Tej Pratap Singh is leading, while in Phulpur, Mohammad Mujtaba Siddiqui of the Samajwadi Party is ahead.

The counting process is expected to take a minimum of 20 rounds in Sisamau and up to 32 rounds in constituencies like Kundarki, Karhal, Phulpur, and Majhawan. A three-tier security arrangement has been implemented to safeguard the counting venues.

While the results of these by-elections will not directly alter the composition of the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly, they are considered significant in terms of political prestige for both the ruling BJP and the opposition parties. The election process was marked by allegations from the Samajwadi Party (SP) that local police prevented voters from reaching polling stations, prompting the Election Commission to take action against five policemen.

In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the BJP secured victories in Phulpur, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, and Khair, while the SP won in Sisamau, Katehari, Karhal, and Kundarki. The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), then an SP ally, won the Meerapur seat but has since aligned with the BJP-led NDA. The results of this by-election will determine the fate of the 90 candidates, with Ghaziabad seeing the highest number of 14 candidates, and Khair and Sisamau each having five contestants.

The bypolls were held on November 20 across Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Kundarki (Moradabad), Ghaziabad, Khair (Aligarh), Karhal (Mainpuri), Sisamau (Kanpur Nagar), Phulpur (Prayagraj), Katehari (Ambedkarnagar), and Majhawan (Mirzapur). A total of 90 candidates, including 11 women, are contesting these elections.
