Tim Southee joins PSL 10 player draft
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Tuesday revealed that seasoned New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee has registered for the eagerly awaited player draft for the league’s 10th season.
The league’s social media platforms shared the exciting news with a banner reading, “Kiwi pace supreme Tim Southee enters the HBL PSL Draft.”
Southee, 36, is one of the most experienced bowlers in T20I history, having represented New Zealand in 126 matches and claiming 164 wickets. He is currently the highest wicket-taker in the format.
The veteran pacer has vast experience in franchise cricket, having played in The Hundred Men’s Competition, Indian Premier League (IPL), Vitality Blast, and Champions League T20. Across 10 IPL seasons, he played for teams such as Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders, taking 47 wickets in 54 matches.
Southee is the fourth New Zealander and the 22nd foreign player to join the PSL 10 draft. For the first time, the draft will be held in Gwadar, Balochistan, on January 11, 2025.
The draft pick order has been announced, with Lahore Qalandars making the first pick, followed by Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, and Peshawar Zalmi. Multan Sultans and Islamabad United will make the fifth and sixth picks, respectively.
Other notable foreign players registered for the draft include Tim Southee, Martin Guptill, Rassie van der Dussen, Matthew Short, Gudakesh Motie, Alex Hales, Luke Wood, Sean Abbott, Alex Carey, Usman Khawaja, Corbin Bosh, Rilee Rossouw, Colin Munro, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Tom Curran, David Willey, Dawid Malan, Jason Roy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Sikandar Raza.
