PTI founder handed over to police on physical remand

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday granted police a five-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder in a case linked to New Town police station.

PTI founder was arrested last night in the New Town police station case, shortly after securing bail in the Toshakhana case. He was presented before the ATC judge in Adiala Jail.

The prosecution had requested a 15-day remand, but the court approved only five days, directing that the investigation continues within the jail. The court also rejected PTI lawyer Salman Safdar’s plea to have PTI founder removed from the case.

On Wednesday, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to PTI founder in the Toshakhana-II case, ordering his release after he submitted two surety bonds worth Rs. 10 lacs each.

Earlier, on November 14, a Special Central Court rejected acquittal pleas filed by PTI founder and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II case. Judge Shah Rukh Arjumand issued the verdict.

On July 13, both PTI founder and Bushra Bibi were arrested in a new NAB reference related to the Toshakhana, hours after being acquitted in the Iddat case.
