As violence in Sambhal during the survey of a mosque left three persons dead and several policemen injured, the Opposition on Sunday accused the Uttar Pradesh BJP government of nurturing its “politics of hatred”. The government, on the other hand, said that no one was above the law and a probe would soon find the guilty.
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav urged the Supreme Court to immediately “take cognisance of the conspiracy of spreading tension in the name of survey”, alleging that the BJP government and its administration “orchestrated the violence to divert attention from electoral malpractice”.
“A survey team was deliberately sent in the morning to disrupt discussions about the election. The intention was to create chaos so that no debate on election issues could happen,” he said in Lucknow.
“There was no hope from the UP government and administration, nor is there any hope now,” he said.
Congress media cell chief Pawan Khera said that no citizen in UP was safe under CM Yogi Adityanath who gave the reprehensible slogan of “Batenge Toh Katenge”.
The videos of direct firing on protesters in Sambhal depict the horrifying result of a well-planned conspiracy by CM Adityanath and the BJP-RSS, he said. “…The Adityanath administration is squarely responsible for killing innocents and only the BJP-RSS is guilty of setting fire to the peace and harmony of Sambhal.”
“Modi-Yogi ‘double assault’ governments, which consider the minority community as second-class citizens, hurriedly got a petition filed in court. It is public knowledge that the court ordered an immediate survey without hearing the other side,” Khera said.
“…Questions are being raised about the role of the police and the administration, because many innocent people have lost their lives in this violence, and more than two dozen people have been injured. Inciting communal hatred and driving a wedge between two communities — is the DNA of BJP-RSS!,” Khera said.
BSP president Mayawati said the administration should have postponed the survey. “The UP government and administration are completely responsible for the violence that happened during the survey today. This is highly condemnable… Such actions should have been carried out peacefully by involving both sides, which was not done,” Mayawati said.
“I especially appeal to the people of Sambhal to maintain peace and order in these challenging times,” she added.
Nagina MP and Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) chief Chandra Shekhar Azad demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and said that he would visit Sambhal on Monday.
“We will continue our fight in a democratic and peaceful manner,” he said.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Deputy CM (UP) Brajesh Pathak said the team had gone for the survey to execute the orders of the court and the law was taking action against those who created obstruction. “The government will conduct a probe into the incident. No one is allowed to take the law into their own hands,” he said.
