Kate Beckinsale recently spoke out about a troubling experience on the set of the 2001 film Pearl Harbor, in which she was allegedly mistreated by a “drunk co-star” who was “rough” with her.
In a video posted on Instagram on December 30, Beckinsale discussed the toxic environment she faced while working in Hollywood and reflected on her experience in the entertainment industry.
Some fans speculated that she was referring to her Pearl Harbor co-star, Ben Affleck, but Beckinsale quickly shut down the rumors, saying, “Ben Affleck protected me on an extremely toxic film set and could not have behaved more respectably.”
Beckinsale further clarified that the issue was not with the actors but with how the industry handled complaints of abuse. She stated, “the most problematic part has not been the actors, it has been that reporting a problem or an abuse has resulted in a greater punishment than one could ever imagine.”
She explained that when she reported the incident, which involved her being physically hurt and frightened, she was punished for speaking out. “I was punished, ostracised and could not have wished harder I hadn’t said anything,” Beckinsale revealed. She made the video to highlight the issue and shed light on the industry’s need for change.
