Retirement is often a deeply emotional moment for everyone, especially for those who dedicated their entire lives to their profession. Such was the case for Dr Jeevan Singh Titiyal, a renowned Indian ophthalmologist who recently retired from AIIMS in Delhi.

A video capturing Dr Titiyal’s farewell has now gone viral. It shows Titiyal, a Padma Shri awardee, still in his hospital scrubs, walking between a sea of colleagues, all of them clapping for him, and hugging some of them bidding goodbye. Titiyal hung up his boots after 46 years of service.

In the video, the doctor has tears streaming down his face, unable to hold back his feelings. The poignant scene also touches those around him, as several of his fellow doctors are seen wiping away tears, clearly moved by the farewell.

Dr J S Titiyal is recognised for being the first Indian doctor to carry out live cornea transplant surgery successfully. In 2014, he received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in acknowledgement of his remarkable contributions to the field of medicine.
